Where I Stand

While my platform focuses on three distinct areas in which I know I can make real change, as a presidential candidate it is important to know where I stand on various issues.

  • Inclusivity: It is my firm belief that everyone, regardless of their race, class, gender identity, ability, sexual orientation, citizenship, upbringing, or beliefs is welcome and has the right to feel safe here at Middlebury.

  • Accessibility: As President, I want to hold the administration accountable for making Middlebury as inclusive as possible with an accessible campus and buildings to all students, faculty, and staff, regardless of ability.

  • Diversity: Diversity is incredibly important, and it is my belief that Middlebury College should be working to increase diversity on campus with regards to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, physical abilities, and ideological beliefs.

  • Divestment: I believe that if Middlebury is going to promote the fact that we are an eco-friendly school, we should put our money where our mouth is and divest from fossil fuels.

  • VT Gas Pipeline: Fracking and fossil fuels are not the way to go, and natural gas will end up locking us into years of dependence on dirty energy, when we really should be transitioning towards genuinely renewable and community-owned energy sources.

  • Sexual Assault: Consent means voluntarily saying yes and cannot be given by someone who is incapacitated. It Happens Here, MiddSafe, and the Green Dot Bystander Training are all programs that I support, which emphasize the importance of having conversations about sexual assault and how it affects everyone.

  • Honor Code: I support the honor code and what it stands for. A year ago, I was a major supporter of the two Honor Code referendums which unfortunately failed to garner the necessary number of voters. I especially supported last year’s referendum S2015-SB6, which proposed that we add community standards to the honor code, changing it from an academic code to one which established guidelines for how Middlebury students should conduct themselves here at the College.

  • Social Life: As a small liberal arts college in the middle of nowhere, social life on campus is incredibly important. I support more registered and responsible parties, student run-bar nights (shout out to the 51 main bar nights!), free concerts, and social events across campus, and I promise to work with the administration to make sure they happen.
