About Me

Hi! My name is Karina Toy and this is my third year serving as a representative of the Class of 2017. I absolutely love being a part of Senate. The opportunity it has given me to meet with other students, staff, and the administration has made my Middlebury experience. I love making students' voices heard and fighting for everything from making laundry less of a chore to helping students on financial aid keep their outside scholarships. Besides Senate, I am active member of the Middlebury Gap Year Students, the Campus Sustainability Coordinators, Model UN, and Chromatic.

More personal things: I am a junior majoring in International Politics and Economics. I focus my studies in the Middle East and China, and I am also interested in environmental issues- especially in relation to energy security and renewable energy.  I was born in a small rural village in Hunan Province, China. At a very young age I was adopted and moved with my parents to Seattle, Washington. I grew from a tiny baby to an average-sized human in Seattle, graduating from Ingraham High School, a Seattle public high school. After being admitted to the Class of 2016, I decided I wanted to do some soul searching and deferred admission to Middlebury in order to live abroad for a year in Yantai, China, studying Mandarin and teaching English. I love skiing and apples from Washington State (sorry Vermont). I don’t drink coffee and sometimes I wonder what kind of superpowers I could have if I did.
